+ | Hello Viper! So, I have now started for real to convert skills into a new shape. I created the Boilerplate:Skill for it, where you can see my idea of how a skill page should look. I am still making changes to it as I started on Magic Missile, noticing things that needs improvements in both the Skillbox and the boilerplate itself. Feel free to pitch in, but start in another skill tree than Arcane, so we don't start to do double work.

+ | :Magic Missile is looking fine. I like the Infobox to the right. I don't have much motivation nor the energy to do anything beyond school at the moment, though (and even that, I screw up).
+ | :As for archiving; Our previous discussion on that quickly changed to a discussion about your Bureaucrat status (or rather, lack thereof).
+ | :I'm used to using the Move function<!--the Move tab on the site layout has a redundant link; It refers to movepage via RC. It still works, though-->, and then removing the redirect left on the 'real' talk page. You can use plain links on your talk page to archives (as I would do), you can create a pretty box to go with it and find a suiting icon.. You can also just not link to the archive at all, if you want :P
+ | :However, there's other archiving methods. One is just copying the contents over to a different page. It's very easy, and requires only 2 edits (removing content, pasting it on other page). One downside to this is that the History tab is empty on the archive. This information would still be stored on your 'real' talk page.
+ | :Last, and possibly least (imo), is the option of just removing all comments, not placing them elsewhere. The history tab will still retain all information.

+ | ::::Two links to get you guys starting: + . It will require some code to be entered in mediawiki:common.js and mediawiki:common.css (can probably be lifted from other wikis, but has to be found first :P Thank MediaWiki for making everything open-source). The div classes can be put in a template so it's not as difficult to remember :P I think the only difference is that the div classes aren't actually tables, unlike the tables (DUH :P ), but I'm still asking around about that. --Vipermagi 18:26, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

+ | New responses on the matter (Q: The major difference is that div boxes aren't tables, but rather floating boxes, right?):<br />
+ | "Basically, yes. Divs are much more flexible than tables, which is why the current web design trend is to avoid tables whenever possible, only using them when necessary to display tabular data." ~Ishmael<br />
+ | "Yes, and the wiki HTML coding has made me adopt this statement: "When in doubt, use a div" ~Gimmethegepgun<br />
+ | GuildWiki only uses NavFrame, and so far we've had no big problems. --Vipermagi 19:29, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

+ | :Ok awesome! Well, it's not only to collapse it like many wikis do, but I'd actually like a tab format like this: (site seems down right now).
+ | |||
+ | :However, this brings up another weird problem. Anything added to mediawiki:common.css is no longer actually working in the wiki. Those classes there only works because we manually put them in the CSS file on the server. Would this be the same with the js page? --Leord 11:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
+ | |||
+ | ::Site ain't down for me. I see which you mean. Since their .css and .js commons are also empty, I can't help you there. They probably implemented it serverside, so you'd have to ask them for the code. (side note: They have a reeeally neat search bar :P ).
+ | ::Did you flush your cache when trying edits to the common css? The css and js codes are stored on the local computer (takes ages loading it from the server every page visit), so you need to force-refresh to see the changes. Other than that, I have no experience on that end, sorry :( Don't think anyone I know does, for that matter. --Vipermagi 13:24, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
+ | |||
+ | :::Well, it's not that hard for me to just implement a new java script on the site - I have FPT access. The thing is I wouldn't know how to use it in the actual templates or articles! --Leord 17:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
+ | |||
+ | ::::re .css issues: Personal .css doesn't work either (user:vipermagi/monobook.css). That's what I needed the new messages box for :) Thanks!
+ | ::::The div classes for NavFrame are all .css. Implementation in articles would look like the following (but probably in a template so it's not uber difficult to remember ^^ Variables for colors, header and content):
+ | <div class="NavFrame" style="background: darkred">
+ | <div class="NavHead" align=left style="background: red"><Header goes here></div>
+ | <div class="NavContent" align=left>
+ | <Dirty little secrets go here>
+ | </div></div> | ||
+ | ::::The .js that needs to be implemented is documented here (top section, up until Dynamic Navigation Bars), css is here (ctrl+f "coll", copy section up until == Infobox == should be everything). This should 'fix' the example I posted, too. Indicator of the code working, I guess. I'm no expert at this stuff, so if everything collapses (in a bad way), it's not my fault, okay? :D --Vipermagi 21:53, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
+ | :::::Hey Vipermagi, it's been awhile. Let me know when you start looking at this stuff again, I think I can help out. It's been some time since I looked at it, but if I remember correctly the monobook.css (and monobook.js) stuff doesn't work because of some server settings that disallow it for standard users. And if we can get jQuery on here we can roll our own cross-browser code that would be much easier to expand and maintain.

Typosfixing is cool[edit source]
Hello Vipermagi! I saw your typo fix on the Berserker. Did I manage to encourage you to pitch in from one of my very verbose wiki news posts? =) --Leord 15:13, 18 November 2008 (CET)
- I feel bad for responding this late D: Anyways, I dripped onto the wiki from the forums, and made an account (I like wikis). Just found that typo after reading through everything in a looong moment of boredom.
- What I noticed today is that diffs (ex.) are completely unreadable; White texts on a very light yellow / green / gray background. Eew. --Vipermagi 15:05, 25 December 2008 (CET)
- I thought that problem with the diff pages was just me... a local browser problem... I guess misery really does love company...
- --belushi81x 18:01, 25 December 2008 (CET)
- Since the .css (Cascading Style Sheet; layout of the wiki) is global, it's very unlikely it's a browser specific problem. However, it's possible to change it for oneself, in special:mypage/monobook.css (assuming you're using the Monobook skin, which is the standard. This can be changed in special:preferences, though). I'm no genius on that, though :< --Vipermagi 14:20, 26 December 2008 (CET)
- Hmm... tried all the skins available in the prefs page, aside from the diff pages, tho, I really didn't like a one of them. I guess I'll have to read up n how to modify that special:mypage/monobook.css... or ask an admin to modify the global one you were talking about...
- --belushi81x 21:58, 26 December 2008 (CET)
- Haha, cool to see this page turned out to a proper discussion! =D I have been annoyed by that colour for a long time, and since we are now starting to accumulate some more serious contributors that USE the page more (I just select the text to see it), I can contact Rushster and demand some small 5 min dev time to fix the CSS for everyone! =) If you can just survive until after Christmas and New years, I'll have it sorted! =) --Leord 14:38, 27 December 2008 (CET)

- I'll keep the structure page open next spree; Cats are always useful (unless they spit hairballs ;) ). --Vipermagi 16:44, 8 September 2009 (CEST)
- Well, that didn't work out quite as planned :P --Vipermagi 14:53, 9 September 2009 (CEST)

- Thanks :D D3db hasn't updated in months, so I'll bookmark your mate's tracker :) --Vipermagi 20:04, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- It's a good one to boot! :) --Leord 17:05, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Java etc[edit source]
Remind me again... What would I have to ask Rush to do in order to get stuff like menus with tabs etc? It's really over due. --Leord 17:05, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for my late response: I only used my computer to run some automated tasks this weekend because I was immensly busy with 5th-of-December-Santa (Saint Klaas, Dutch (not sure about other countries celebrating him) holiday and stuff). As for the actual question: I don't get it. Don't we have something like that at the top of the Wiki already? I'm probably misunderstanding it all :P --Vipermagi 13:09, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Awesome, so you guys have a second Christmas? :)
- Yeah, we have java in the menu. I mean I want it in navboxes. Navboxes with tabs, sorry for being vague. :) --Leord 17:40, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Weeeelll, it's quite a lot different, but the names are the same in foreign languages :P
- Show/Hide boxes. Give me half an hour and I'll get back to you. --Vipermagi 17:49, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Two links to get you guys starting: [1] + [2].
New responses on the matter (Q: The major difference is that div boxes aren't tables, but rather floating boxes, right?):
"Basically, yes. Divs are much more flexible than tables, which is why the current web design trend is to avoid tables whenever possible, only using them when necessary to display tabular data." ~Ishmael
"Yes, and the wiki HTML coding has made me adopt this statement: "When in doubt, use a div" ~Gimmethegepgun
GuildWiki only uses NavFrame, and so far we've had no big problems. --Vipermagi 19:29, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ok awesome! Well, it's not only to collapse it like many wikis do, but I'd actually like a tab format like this: [3] (site seems down right now).
- However, this brings up another weird problem. Anything added to mediawiki:common.css is no longer actually working in the wiki. Those classes there only works because we manually put them in the CSS file on the server. Would this be the same with the js page? --Leord 11:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Site ain't down for me. I see which you mean. Since their .css and .js commons are also empty, I can't help you there. They probably implemented it serverside, so you'd have to ask them for the code. (side note: They have a reeeally neat search bar :P ).
- Did you flush your cache when trying edits to the common css? The css and js codes are stored on the local computer (takes ages loading it from the server every page visit), so you need to force-refresh to see the changes. Other than that, I have no experience on that end, sorry :( Don't think anyone I know does, for that matter. --Vipermagi 13:24, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it's not that hard for me to just implement a new java script on the site - I have FPT access. The thing is I wouldn't know how to use it in the actual templates or articles! --Leord 17:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- re .css issues: Personal .css doesn't work either (user:vipermagi/monobook.css). That's what I needed the new messages box for :) Thanks!
- The div classes for NavFrame are all .css. Implementation in articles would look like the following (but probably in a template so it's not uber difficult to remember ^^ Variables for colors, header and content):
<Dirty little secrets go here>
- The .js that needs to be implemented is documented here (top section, up until Dynamic Navigation Bars), css is here (ctrl+f "coll", copy section up until == Infobox == should be everything). This should 'fix' the example I posted, too. Indicator of the code working, I guess. I'm no expert at this stuff, so if everything collapses (in a bad way), it's not my fault, okay? :D --Vipermagi 21:53, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Vipermagi, it's been awhile.

- I figured it was blocked serverside. I guess we'll have to look at Rush kindly? ;) I'll take a look at jQuery; no idea what it is. Most likely don't have time today, however. *puts up a stickynote* --Vipermagi 11:38, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Poke[edit source]
I have no clue if you saw I replied on my talk page, since there's so much spam and me deleting stuff at the moment. :) --Leord 13:41, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
