Welcome Belushi81x

Hello, saw your typo-fixes and the fact that you created a page for yourself, good start! You don't have to write about yourself in third person though.. =P Anyway, have you any previous wiki-experience, or is this your first little steps into a whole new world? =D (PS, if you are unsure of how to reply on a wiki talk page, check out the Help:Talk article) --Leord 12:59, 16 December 2008 (CET)

Oh, and BTW, how did you find the Diablo 3 Wiki? =) --Leord 13:02, 16 December 2008 (CET)
Ohh... lots of questions... I like writing about myself in the third person (in this particular case) because it appeals to my sense of humor. I use a number of wiki pages, tho I don't usually stop to write or edit entries. It is my experience that the people who sit down and write those entries are usually better at it than me, tho that won't stop me from fixing a few type-os I see, or adding links. I may add a real page or two here, tho for the moment anything I know about the game is already here. What else... oh I've been looking at the Diablo 3 Wiki since shortly after the announcement. (I believe it was linked off the blizzard forums by someone-or-another). I happened to see on the front page the suggestion that one could contribute by simply fixing type-os and I fixed a few I saw while browsing this week. I really like this site, so a small contribution makes me feel good. Haven't gotten into your forums as of yet, but I may. --Belushi81x 15:13, 16 December 2008 (EDT)
Well, I am positive that you would be more than welcome in the forums, but I admit that I easily spend most my time in the wiki =D This one or StarCraft Wiki, which is my other favourite game... I just want to say though that most people don't realize that one small typo can be the life and death in some situations, and some typos are almost impossible to find in a 5 page article with the spell checker. And "in" instead of "is" won't be picked up, and can completely alter a sentence. And if you would do more than that, well, I guess you get the point. ;) A lot of people come and do small things every now and again, and this is what brings the wiki forward. Of course, we need people like me, Elly and Flux as well, that does big piles, and organizes people, but it's really a grass root movement. =)
If you would go do pages, I think the only thing we truly lack is Lore at the moment. If you haven't read a book and know nothing at all, there's still plenty to do. Pick a random manual and a random chapter, and I guarantee you can ad a link or two, and also make a small stub out of the link =) I'm off to StarCraft wiki, but don't be a stranger in here ;) --Leord 18:57, 19 December 2008 (CET)

Poke

Made a reply here, just so you don't miss it =) --Leord 10:25, 22 December 2008 (CET)

History Page CSS

Don't worry about the History pages CSS, I'll make sure to get someone to fix it as soon as I have easier internet access! =) --Leord 15:25, 27 December 2008 (CET)

Trying to get hold of you

Please reply here, or on my talk page, I'd like to talk with you =) --Leord 12:33, 14 January 2009 (CET)

What do you need?
--Belushi81x 13:54, 14 Jan 2009 (CET)
Oh, silly me, I should have just asked you to e-mail me. =P leordATincgamersDOTcom please =) --Leord 16:17, 16 January 2009 (CET)

Updates

I see you have made lots of small and very useful updates around the wiki! =) Very nice! Also, great job on Dark Wanderer. Perhaps we could add a pic or two from the D1 and D2 cinematics? --Leord 13:38, 30 January 2009 (CET)

I don't see why not... I should probably figure out how to do that...
--Belushi81x 1st February
special:upload is generally the first step to uploading images ;) I'm an egghead. Just saw you already uploaded a pic :P Sorry to bother you. --Vipermagi 16:48, 2 February 2009 (CET)
No worries mate... the help files here are fairly straight forward, I just Had to take the time to read them, which I hadn't done yet when I posted that.
--Belushi81x 2nd February 2009
Woiii! I think that's the first ever compliment I got for all my hard work on the help files! =D --Leord 15:20, 3 February 2009 (CET)

Michael Gough

Nice one on Michael Gough. Much better over all =) --Leord 17:12, 16 February 2009 (CET)

Second Major Project

Hey! I don't think you can have missed my first major project, the Monsters updated with proper templates and stuff.. Well, I am very interested in the second one to be skills. I'd like every known skill to have it's own article, and if they change name, or add/remove skills, we'll adapt. Removed skills are good, as we can keep the old as a "pre-Alpha archive" of some sort. I saw you helped with redirects, this would be a big and very slow project. Many small steps, so easy to bite-size it on a busy day ;) --Leord 17:05, 26 February 2009 (CET)

Hmm... Sounds like a good idea to me... I'd suggest breaking up the work and doing it one tree at a time... start out with a lot of copy/paste...
If you do one tree... show me EXACTLY what you have in mind I can probably mimic whatever style you have in mind and help with other trees...

Paint skills:

Draft

Scaled down; click for larger versions etc. I don't know how large the descriptions will be compared to the skill icons, so I dashed those borders. I drew boxes merely to show borders; you could just use headers for the description and notes, which probably looks better than a multitude of boxes ;) The skill tree pages could have a list of all skills (with links, of course), and you could maybe add skill icons to the list.
Also, Mana/Fury cost should go in the progression table too (assuming the Mana/Fury cost increase. Otherwise you might as well put it under the skill icon with a small blue globe that screams "This is the Mana/Fury Cost for this skill(, d00d)". Same with cooldowns.
My only worry is with the synergy skills: If they alter a lot of skills, it might get cluttered with all the progression tables. Although.. Arreat Summit sometimes has huge tables.
Talking about Arreat Summit; We could copy their skill info style, too. It's mostly a different lay-out. --Vipermagi 11:19, 28 February 2009 (CET)
I was looking at some skills on the DII side of the Wiki[1]... they are set-up a lot like the ones on the DIII side are currently (tho a bit better organized and with better polish on their pages)... are we sure we wish to change the set-up?
It may be better to simply scrub and improve the set-up we have.
-Belushi81x 02:11, 1 Mar 2009 (CET)
I think the pages will be large; Each tree in D III will have quite a bunch of skills. This makes loading tedious for those with lesser connections. Just a presumption, though. --Vipermagi 15:16, 1 March 2009 (CET)
Makes sense... ok now I get to begin the tedious task of making wiki tables which is even more tedious than HTML tables... but not today.

The Magic Missile Draft on the bottom of this talk page represents a current draft I've made from your notes and my bad judgment. There needs to be (I think) a little more tweaking before the format is finalized, but this is pretty close to where we can copy/paste/transcribe most of the known data in here. I'm gunna let it sit for a day or two and try to get your notes before I play with it more.--belushi81x 01:46, 3 March 2009 (CET)
Looks fine to me :) However, when a table becomes too wide to fit next to the image, it crawls under (Show Preview ftw?). This creates quite a big space between the header and the progression table. Maybe move the header below the image? --Vipermagi 16:30, 3 March 2009 (CET)

Same subject, kinda...

So I figured I'd put it down here. An idea for the Skill tree pages:

Plague Skill Tree
Tier 1
Active
*Locust Swarm
*Plague of Toads
*Spider Statue

Passive
*...
*...
*...

Tier 2
*...
*...
*...

Or you could drop the separate Active/Passive and blend those together. Anyways, try that on the Plague Skill Tree page and see if you like it, when you have time :) It makes an easier-to-read page, and it won't become as long as with a header for each skill (preserves the TOC, too). --Vipermagi 12:24, 8 March 2009 (CET)

I like the idea, tho there are no passives released for the witch doctor at all... I'm off work tomorrow and will probably finish out the WD and maybe start on the Wizard then...
I was also considering asking you or Loerd to do a nav box like what you guys did for the monster pages. I haven't looked into how to do that as of yet.--belushi81x 21:16, 9 March 2009 (CET)
Navbox drafts. Whaddayathink? Image can be left out, if you want. The idea was to get a small icon for that class or something like that. Or world maps. --Vipermagi 17:47, 10 March 2009 (CET)
I like. I'm sure out of the concept art and screen shots arround we can come up with good images for the classes... hell we could just use the faces of the classes up on the official site...--belushi81x 20:17, 10 March 2009 (CET)

Moving the project

Hey guys! I really missed this whole discussion after I came back from Morocco. This is AWESOME job so far, collaborating and experimenting, I am REALLY impressed! =D I'll get right on the horse here, and start to give my input:

Talk pages are really not optimal to do testing. Rather just make a User Page for it, like User:Belushi81x/Skill Trees, and you can try out things there. Since this is starting to look like a real project, we might want, or just get people interested in helping, and as such, it might be better to move the entire discussion off of User pages and on to a proper project page, like DiabloWiki:Community_Portal/Skill Tree Revamp or something like that. It's naturally entirely up to us, regardless. Might want to call it something like DiabloWiki:Projects/Skill Tree Revamp instead, I'm not sure.

Regarding the navigation: I agree we should make something like the Template:Skill_tree_navbox that Vipermagi made. Probably make it into Template:Skill_navbox rather than using "Skill tree". Good name for testing though. Also, the link in the title should really be "Skill Navigation". Also, I think you should make the table into one row, and 5 columns instead. We might re-do that with the expansions, but that seems to be way in the future anyway. Also, make sure it's the same width as other nav boxes! Donno how wide they are on top of my head.

We should probably make the navigation as compact as possible, and then add a box underneath with the skill tree of the current selected skill type. Basically, pulling that in with a template in the nav box, and pointing at the right template through a template variable: Plague to add the list of Plague Skill Tree skills.

The rest of it looks too complex for me to grasp immediately. I'll re-read it again.

Also, it's a great idea to not make major changes to how the current structure looks before we made up most of our minds about structure and appearance, and start small to implement, looking for obvious flaws before going grand scale. Witch Doctor skills was a good thing to start with, and we go with that, but I would have appreciated making complete drafts on project pages before re-arranging the current content pages. You're free to edit those navboxes (leave the text alone, though ;) ) to better suit the rest. I'm fine with wherever you want to move this. --Vipermagi 15:19, 14 March 2009 (CET)

Mongrel

BTW, awesome work with Vipermagi on the Mongrel. Yeah, I know you did the most ;) --Leord 17:07, 26 February 2009 (CET)

Other Notes, and Speculation

In early levels, Magic Missile might be the Wizard's bread and butter. In later levels, it might prove invaluable as a cheap and direct means of silencing a monster for 4 seconds -- plenty of time to dispatch of them before they can cast a nasty spell on you, or raise the fallen to fight again. The difficulty will be in hitting the shaman behind the minions, since Magic Missile will strike another monster if it's between the Wizard and the targeted boss.

Magic Missile's effectiveness is increased by a variety of spells, the most noteworthy of which is Improved Magic Missile, which increases both the damage and number of missiles released on a cast. The range and spread of higher levels of Magic Missile is reminiscent of the DII Necromancer's Teeth. When an enemy dies at the hands of an Arcane spell, a purple glow is left on the corpses.
