Runes of Sanctuary.
The new Skill Rune system of Diablo 3 will be vastly different than the Diablo 2 runes, as they will no longer be socketed into items, but instead infused into skills directly, and have a much greater gameplay effect.

During BlizzCon 2008, it was possibly to try out these skill runes in action, but only with the newly announced Wizard class. Players could add a rune to a Wizard spell and create new effects such as hitting more targets or causing damage in a greater area.

The Wizard was not a huge surprise for most Blizzard fans when she was revealed at BlizzCon 2008, but the fact that so many of the Wizard skills were available for us to study and collect in DiabloWiki was quite a surprise. The poor Witch Doctor only had a handful of skills!


From the different skill trees, we saw spectacular spell effects such as a Meteor Storm, Slow Time or "Electrocute" (more commonly known as "Chain Lightning").
