The rune effect function and name is an homage to the science fiction film ''The Last Starfighter''. The space fighter in that film had a "Death Blossom" weapon that fired all lasers in every direction in an uncontrollable spray, but which exhausted the ship entirely in the process, leaving them a sitting duck if any enemies were not killed by the assault.
