The Demon Hunter fires a molten arrow that scorches the land beneath it, leaving a trail of fire that damages anything that stands on it.

Skill Design

Molten trail left by the skill.

Molten Arrow almost appears to be the equivalent of Fire Wall from previous Diablo games, but with a different mechanism for targeting it. The Demon Hunter fires in the direction of her cursor, and the initial shot does damage but leaves behind a trail of fire that functions similarly to fire wall.
This type of skill will be at its most efficient when fired down tight corridors or other enclosed areas where movement is restricted.

Skill Rank Table

Rank: 1/5 Shoot a piercing arrow that hits targets for X% weapon damage and leaves a trail of fire dealing X-X fire damage per second to all enemies who stand in it.

Skill Rune Effects

Development

This skill was first shown at BlizzCon 2010 as one of the originals when the Demon Hunter was unveiled. Flux relates his experience with the skill from a hands-on report[1]:

The most damaging arrow skill, and great for long, narrow passageways, which the demo had a ton of. I loved this one against long strings of monsters on the raised platforms. Big damage on the initial shot, and the burning on the ground was good for DoT. Also the only good piercing arrow attack in the demo, so great to hit back row stuff.

Graphics

We didn't start the fire.

Molten Arrow doesn't stress the fire aspect as much as it does the molten. As can be seen in these screenshots, the arrow itself is followed quickly by a burst of flame, and the ground beneath it is left glowing orange with scorched earth.
