Hassling Haedrig

This page provides information on Hassling Haedrig[e] Achievement. It details when the conversations become available from Haedrig, the Blacksmith.


If you are going back to quests in order to get these conversations make sure you check the Blacksmith first for any conversations he has available. If they are white text listen to them. Some conversations won't appear if he has others not listened to (white text).

Act IEdit

The Weary BlacksmithEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "What troubles you?"

Haedrig: "It's my wife, she is very ill."

Player: "I pray for her health."

WhenEdit

There is a small window of opportunity to get this conversation. It becomes available after completing The Legacy of Cain quest when you are not on any quest. Speak with Leah and then the cart blocking the path in Tristram will disappear which means you can reach Haedrig. Go to him and he'll immediately start The Weary Blacksmith conversation.

Once you accept the next quest, A Shattered Crown, the conversation will disappear so do not accept it from Deckard until speaking with Haedrig.


New TristramEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "Nothing seems to ever change in New Tristram, does it?"

Player: "What do you mean?"

Haedrig: "There always some threat of the risen dead or foul evil descending on the town, isn't there?"

WhenEdit

After completing A Shattered Crown quest quit out of the game. Select The Fallen Star > Captain Rumford from the quest menu. You'll appear in the centre of Tristram. Speak with the Blacksmith and he will have the "New Tristram" conversation available.



Haedrig's GrandfatherEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "I wish to hear more of your grandfather. King Leoric's Chancellor"

Haedrig: "Not much to tell. I lived with my father in Caldeum at the time. We heard that my grandfather stayed in Tristram until the end, trying to save lives. Don't know if he succeeded, but there it is. When the Skeleton King fell, my grandfather was dying from a sword wound. He had the crown sealed with him to keep it safe."

Player: "It takes strength to stand against the dark. Thank you for your grandfather's sacrifice."

WhenEdit

After you have killed his wife Mira in the Cellar of the Damned you can speak to him back at his caravan and he'll have the Haedrig's Grandfather conversation available.



Cain's DisappearanceEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "It doesn't seem likely that Deckard Cain could have survived down in the Cathedral this long, does it?

Player: "He is alive, and I will rescue him.

Haedrig: "You seem quite sure of yourself. Do you know something I don't?"

Mira EamonEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "I am surprised to see you working so soon after your wife's passing."

Haedrig: "There's no point in hiding my face in a pillow. You need weapons; I make weapons. Work needs getting done."

Player: "I find your devotion admirable, and the quality of your work is impressive. We will speak again."

After handing the crown back to Haedrig, the Blacksmith on completing the Shattered Crown quest.



Haedrig's FatherEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "You spoke of your father before. I would like to hear of him."

Haedrig: "My father was a diplomat. We had a manor in Caldeum with servants, terraces, all of that. Everything changed when the troubles started. Somehow, rumors spread that my grandfather was responsible for the King's madness. My father's work fell apart. No one would speak to him. He kept believing it would blow over, though."

Player: "Did it?"

Haedrig: "No. I'd rather not talk about it now, if you don't mind. I have work to see to."

WhenEdit

Available directly after completing The Broken Blade quest.


Select The Broken Blade > Talk to Alaric from the quest menu. Make sure you have listened to any other conversations the Blacksmith has available. Some conversations will not appear if others haven't been listened to first.


Fate of Haedrig's FatherEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "I can tell by the look in your eye that you're not going to leave it alone. You want to hear what happened to my father."

Player: "You don't become a hunter unless you've lost someone. You can talk to me."

Haedrig: "Right, well... my father tried to dispel the rumors about my grandfather. No one would listen. Then one night, a week later, crazed refugees from Tristram came for revenge. I remember my father screaming for us to get out. And nasty laughter... a lot of it. Just before Justus shoved me out the window, I saw my father crawling up the stairs at me with two daggers in his back and a third whipping around his throat."

Player: "And the memory of it haunts your dreams even now."

Haedrig: "How did you know?"

Player: "I told you, blacksmith. We've all lost someone."

Available after you accept the Return to New Tristram quest.


Act IIEdit

Returning to CaldeumEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "Returning to Caldeum must be hard for you."

Haedrig: "I told myself I'd never come back here, and yet here I am."

Player: "Because of what happened to your father?"

Haedrig: "Because of what happened to me. Some scars don't heal, and there's no point in scratching at them, is there? Weather doesn't suit me either."

Available after you accept the quest Shadows in the Desert.


Changes in the CityEdit

Player: "Have things changed much in Caldeum since you have been gone?"

Haedrig: "Last time I passed through here was soon after meeting Mira. She wanted to stop and see the city, but I convinced her to travel on. My good memories of Caldeum feel like I'm watching someone else's life. I'll be glad for us to be gone."

After completing Shadows in the Desert quest with the Enchantress at the Black Canyon Bridge and starting The Road to Alcarnus.


Meeting MiraEdit

ConversationEdit

Player: "Did you meet your wife here?"

Haedrig: "It's actually quite a tale. We met in a town not far from here, on the outskirts of Kurast. She was... Well, you're not going to believe it...She was... locked in a cage."

Player: "You married a criminal?"

Haedrig: "No! They were going to burn her as a witch."

Player: "You married a witch?"

Haedrig: "Let's talk about this another time."

After completing City of Blood quest where you kill Maghda and return to the [Hidden Camp]]. Speak with the Blacksmith then.


The Vecin (Act II)Edit

ConversationEdit

Player: "What happened when you were with the Vecin?"

Haedrig: "When we first joined the wagon train, we were just two lost souls. The Vecin thought it was unbearably romantic, a pair of lovers on the run from their pasts. I suppose it might have even been true. A mystic with the Vecin recognized Mira's talent immediately. We stayed with them while Mira learned from her. Along the way, we fell in love and married. I've never known anything as surely as my love for her."

Player: "Maybe she cast a spell on you."

Haedrig: "Never mind."

After you have handed in the quest Betrayer of the Horadrim to Adria in the Hidden Camp before taking the next quest, Blood and Sand from Zoltun Kulle.


Going to Tristram (Act II)Edit

ConversationEdit

Player: "What brought you to Tristram?"

Haedrig: "You know, I've asked myself that. It was Mira's idea. I wonder if she saw something and knew that I needed to be there to help you. Did she know what was going to happen all along?"

Player: "There's no point in asking yourself such questions. What is done is done."

Haedrig: "Thank you. I need a moment alone."

After you accept The Black Soulstone quest.


Caldeum after BelialEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "Do you wonder what will happen in Caldeum now?"

Player: "Life will go on, I expect. For those who survived."

Haedrig: "Asheara will be there to keep the peace. I only hope they rebuild wisely. I have seen the ruin that Leoric and Diablo brought in Tristram. I would not wish it upon Caldeum.

After returning to the Hidden Camp after killing Belial in the Lord of Lies quest.


Act IIIEdit

The FutureEdit

Haedrig: "What will you do when this battle is ended?"

Player: "I can't think about that until I have won."

Haedrig: "It's never too early."

Player: "The demons will scatter when [[Azmodan is dead. I will hunt them down and slay them one by one."

Haedrig: "A nobel goal. I just want a quiet town in the country, where I can work and live a life of peace."

WhenEdit

As soon as you get to Act III first accept The Siege of Bastion's Keep quest from Tyrael, then take a Town Portal to Bastion's Keep Stronghold and speak with the Blacksmith who will have "The Future" and "Bastion's Keep" conversation which is also required for the Hassling Haedrig achievement.


If you are going back to collect the conversations, from the quest menu select The Siege of Bastion's Keep > Light the Beacons and you'll begin in the Stronghold. The Blacksmith will have both conversations ready.


Raising the CatapultsEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "It will be difficult to break Azmodan's advance without the catapults brought to bear. The demons' numbers are too great. In time, they will overrun us. But if the catapults can be raised, our superior position may make all the difference."

After accepting the quest Turning the Tide from Tyrael in Bastion's Keep Stronghold.


The Final GoalEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "Times has flown by since I joined you in New Tristram. Look at us now. Who would have ever guessed we'd be here? And now every passing hour brings us closer to our goal. But do we have a chance?"

Player: "There's always a chance, but only if we take it."

Tide of BattleEdit

Haedrig: "The men look to you to lead them. When they see you laying waste to the demon hordes, they are heartened. As you go, so does this battle. Always remember that."

After accepting the Machines of War quest from Leah in the Armory.


NervesEdit

Haedrig: "How do you feel? Nervous?"

Player: "I conquered my terror long ago. Now I only see what I must do next."

Haedrig: "I feel a sense of calm. I know you can do it. Have no fear; the things I have crafted will not fail you."

After you accept Siegebreaker quest from Tyrael at Rakkis Crossing.


Haedrig's Sorrow (Act III-IV)Edit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "I thought I could make my wife's death mean something. It doesn't matter now, does it?"

Player: "Yes it does. More than ever, in fact. I can never succeed in this without your aid"

Haedrig: "Right. I'm sure that's a comfort for Leah now that she's gone too. I've been a fool. You don't get to make things right. This world isn't made for redemption."

WhenEdit

On the Heart of Sin quest. After the cutscene has played up on Bastion's Keep Watchtower and the red Portal to Heaven has opened. Take a Town Portal back to Bastion's Keep Stronghold and the Blacksmith will have the conversation available.


Act IVEdit

An ApologyEdit

ConversationEdit

Haedrig: "I'm sorry for what I said before. I was upset. I don't know what it is, but I feel better, like things can be made right."

Player: "Your faith has returned then?"

Haedrig: "Yes, that's it exactly. My wife would not have wanted me to wallow in my misery. She would have wanted me to do everything I could to help you win this battle. And you can win. I know that now."

WhenEdit

During The Light of Hope quest. After killing Rakanoth in the Library of Fate speak with Auriel and she will open a portal back to the Gardens of Hope. You can take a Town Portal back to Bastion's Keep Stronghold at that point and speak with the Blacksmith who will now have this conversation available.
