Named

Superunique versions of Grotesque have a chance of spawning in the following areas:

Lore

The grotesques may seem slow and senseless, but they hide many dangers within their hideously malformed bodies. A set of spikes lurks beneath the monsters' flesh and foul parasites nest within them. It is said that these horrors themselves are constructed by a greater evil... a darkness that I cannot even fathom. -- Deckard Cain

Diablo I Monster

The Grotesque did not feature in Diablo I.

Diablo II Monster

The Grotesque did not feature in Diablo II.

Development

The Grotesque was first seen in the WWI 2008 gameplay video, and when found in the Forgotten Tombs, he had significantly less health than in later gameplay videos as well as the BlizzCon 2008 demo. This is not spectacular though, as it seems that video had all mob's health turned way down to show the strength of the Barbarian.

In an interview with Anthony Rivero[1], the designer of the Grotesque, he mentioned the "Corpulent" as the name for this monster. It could be the monster "family" name, or possibly just an alternative name.
