Quetzalcoatl is a legendary voodoo mask that can be found in Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls. This item can only be equipped by the Witch Doctor, and will only very rarely drop for any other class.
The Smart Drop system ensures that voodoo masks will usually roll with Intelligence, or at least never roll with Strength or Dexterity. Any bonus skill damage will be tuned to Witch Doctor skills as well.
Quetzalcoatl properties[edit | edit source]
This item has a legendary affix that boosts the effectiveness of Locust Swarm and Haunt, but only if they are used properly. The damage of the skills remains the same while the duration is cut by half; Haunt usually lasts 12 seconds, while Locust Swarm lasts for 8 seconds.
This is great if the damage is enough to kill the target, since it'll die in half the time, but players generally grow used to knowing about how long their DoT attacks will last, and thus when they need to refresh them. With this helm a Witch Doctor has to adjust his mental timer to cast these skills twice as often as he would otherwise, and this can result in down or dead time, when the DoT has ended but the player hasn't refreshed it yet.
- All stats scale up to the level of this item when dropped.
- See the sample screenshots below to see how this item will roll at level 70.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
Quetzalcoatl was a god of the Mayans, worshiped in the Post classical period before the Spanish came and brought Jesus at the point of a sword. The name means "feathered serpent" and it's a bit ironic to find it in Diablo 3, as this is piece of real world lore and mythology entering the game world... and this after Blizzard consciously removed most of the Christian symbolism that was common in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2, from Diablo 3. The developers explained that they wanted to create their own world lore, rather than import elements from the real world, but apparently that logic doesn't extend to naming pagan gods from Central America.
