Lore

Scoundrel concept art.

Lyndon is a thief hailing from Kingsport, and a braggart who takes a more humorous approach to the game's setting. Leonard Boyarsky spoke of Lyndon in an interview with FZ.se:[1]

The Scoundrel is from Kingsport. He’s kind of disgraced and has been kicked out of the thieves’ guild. He’s a real thief in both mind and heart. His name is Lyndon and he acts kind of like the classical DPS character, he’s a guy that does damage from a distance.

Gear

Gear

The followers in Diablo III are much more restricted in what they can equip from what we've seen in the mercenaries in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The Scoundrel is able to equip bows, two-handed crossbows, two rings, one amulet and a Scoundrel specific item called Scoundrel Tokens at level 21.

Like the other followers, the Scoundrel has three tiers of gear progression, which are based upon level. The final tier of armor for the Scoundrel bears remarkable similarity to that of the Demon Hunter at later levels, the main difference being the Scoundrel's manly mustache.

Skills

Much like the player character classes, followers are able to learn a few skills or spells at specific level milestones. Not much is known about the skills, currently, besides their names and when they are unlocked. Players may choose one skill from each tier. Follower skills cannot be augmented nor benefit from runes, and they only have one rank, as opposed to player skills.

As the Enchantress draws many parallels to the Wizard in terms of spells, the same holds true for the Scoundrel, having many similar abilities to the Demon Hunter.

Fan Favorite?

Some fans critiqued Kormac as following too closely to the art direction of the WarCraft series, and others commented on the lack of clothing and pop-star sensibilities of Eirena[2]. However, Lyndon seems to draw unanimous approval due, perhaps in part, to his excellently-groomed mustache, armor theme similar to that of the gothic Demon Hunter, and the in-born charisma of a thief.

Conversations

Act I

Lyndon's Origins

Barbarian: Where are you from?
Demon Hunter: So, where are you from?
Monk: Where are you from?
Witch Doctor: Where do you come from?
Wizard: Where are you from?

Kingsport, the city by the sea. Home to the great merchant fleets and endless nets of reeking fish!

Barbarian: And your trade?
Demon Hunter: I've seen it. What did you do there?
Monk: And your trade?
Witch Doctor: And your trade?
Wizard: And you trade

I am between jobs at the moment.

Barbarian: You did dishonorable work there, didn't you?
Demon Hunter: Dishonorable jobs, no doubt.
Monk: You don't seem the sort for a honest job.
Witch Doctor: That is not an honest answer.
Wizard: You've never done an honest days work in your life, have you?

Nonsense. I am the most honest thief you will ever meet. Do you ever think about making positive changes in your life? I don't.

The Unrepentant Rogue

Barbarian:
Demon Hunter: Why do you waste your time chasing after women?
Witch Doctor: It is strange that you waste your time in pursuit of women.
Wizard: You shouldn't waste time chasing women.

Waste?! Time is scarcely better spent.

Barbarian:
Demon Hunter: Not when you discard them so readily.
Witch Doctor: But you stay with none of them.
Wizard: But you do not keep any of them.

I've only found one worth keeping... but she slipped away from me.

Barbarian:
Demon Hunter: That's no excuse to bother every other woman you see.
Witch Doctor: I see. You bother women to ease the sting.
Wizard: Still, you shouldn't bother every woman that crosses your path.

Well, no. Sometimes they should bother me!

Kingsport Fighting

Barbarian:
Demon Hunter: Who trained you to fight?
Monk:
Witch Doctor: You are a skilled fighter.
Wizard: How did you learn to fight?

My brother taught me when we were younger. He thought the crossbow was the best weapon for me since it would give me time to run away if I botched things too badly.

Demon Hunter: The crossbow is not a weapon for cowards.

Hah, did I offend you?

Barbarian:
Demon Hunter: Shut up. Where is your brother now?
Monk:
Witch Doctor: Where is he now.
Wizard: Where is he now.

Oh, he's still in Kingsport. I expect he'll be there a good long time.

Sticky Fingers

Demon Hunter: Why did you become a thief?
Witch Doctor: How did you become a thief?
Wizard: How did you become a thief?

That's a long and terrible story that y-you wouldn't want to hear.

Demon Hunter: You probably fancied something but couldn't afford it.
Witch Doctor: You found something you liked and couldn't afford?
Wizard: You found something you liked and couldn't afford?

Basically.

Demon Hunter: Try to be more reasonable in the future.
Witch Doctor: Perhaps you should be more reasonable.
Wizard: Maybe you should be more reasonable in future.

Oh, there was nothing reasonable about her.

Blood Ties

Witch Doctor: Do you have any other family?

My brother and I were orphans we only had each other.

Witch Doctor: Is he a thief also?

No. He was a member of the city guard.

Witch Doctor: That seems odd.

Not as much as you might think. Until the end, that is.

Difficult Decisions

Do you ever doubt your choices?

Witch Doctor: I ponder them before, not after.

Things never seem to turn out like I hope they will.

Witch Doctor: Trust the spirits. They will guide you.

Try living in the slums before you lecture me.

Witch Doctor: I see you carry great pain.
