Kormac the Templar is one of the three classes of followers in Diablo III. As a bit of trivia, the Templar appeared as the jack of spades in the Diablo poker set [1], emblazoned with the word "Courageous".
The Templar is voiced by Dominic Keating, who was an actor on the Star Trek: Enterprise television series.
- Full info about Followers in Diablo III.

Lore[edit | edit source]
The followers were designed with lore in mind, and Kormac is no exception. Leonard Boyarsky spoke of Kormac in an interview with FZ.se [2]:
It seems that Lazarus is capable of pissing people off well after his timely demise in Diablo I. Apparently he was also a petty thief, which is one more reason to bash his face in with a mace in D1.
Kormac also introduces the Templar Order to the Diablo series. It is not known how much of an impact they will have on the lore of the story.
Jay Wilson added more about Kormac's introductory quest. [3]
Gear[edit | edit source]
The followers in Diablo III are much more restricted in what they can equip from what we've seen in the mercenaries in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The Templar is able to equip shields, one-handed axes, dagger, one-handed maces, one-handed spears, one-handed swords, two rings, one amulet and a Templar specific item called Templar Relics at level 18. He appears to be brandishing one-handed spears and perhaps a sword in more than one screenshot.
Like the other followers, Kormac has three tiers of gear progression, which are based upon level.
Skills[edit | edit source]
Much like the player character classes, followers are able to learn a few skills or spells at specific level milestones. Not much is known about the skills, currently, besides their names and when they are unlocked. Players may choose one skill from each tier.
Follower skills cannot be modified by runes, and they only have one rank.
Unlocked at Level 5[edit | edit source]
Heal -- Heals you and the Templar for 2030 Life. Cooldown: 15 seconds.
From Kevin Martens:[4]
they will use automatically when you are low health, so you don't have to worry about telling him to heal you or anything like that.
Intervene -- Taunts enemies wihin 10 yards of you for 1 second when you are hit. Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Unlocked at Level 10[edit | edit source]
Loyalty -- Regenerates 50 Life per second for you and the Templar.
Intimidate -- Enemy units that hit or are hit by the Templar are slowed by 60% for 3 seconds.
Unlocked at Level 15[edit | edit source]
Charge -- Charges a target, dealing 50% weapon damage and stunning all enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds. Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Onslaught -- Delivers a massive blow to an enemy for 200% weapon damage. Cooldown: 15 seconds.
Unlocked at Level 20[edit | edit source]
Inspire -- Increase your resource generation.
Mana: +4 per second.
Arcane Power: +.5 per second.
Hatred: +1 per second.
Fury: +8% generated.
Spirit: +12% generated.
Guardian -- Rush to your aid, knocking back enemies within 15 yards and healing you for 3076 health. Cooldown: 30 seconds.
Conversations[edit | edit source]
Act 1[edit | edit source]
Becoming a Templar
- Demon Hunter: Were you raised as a templar in the order?
No. Our scripture says, "As a farmer reaps his wheat, so must the order harvest and purify the weeds."
- Demon Hunter: My initiation was less formal. They asked me if I wanted to hunt demons, and I said yes.
That would be simpler. But your order destroys monsters. Mine redeems them.
- Witch Doctor: I do not know much of your order. Were you born a templar?
No. Our scripture says, "As a farmer reaps his wheat, so must the order harvest and purify the weeds."
- Witch Doctor: You say you are a weed. I think that even weeds have their purpose under the sun and moon.
No. They strangle. They corrupt. And the crop fails. I was lucky to be taken when I was.
Sins
- Demon Hunter: I have seen enough monsters to know that you aren't one of them. Why d you feel guilty about your past?
- Witch Doctor: The spirits say that you hang a mantle of shame on your shoulders. What crimes haunt you?
I can not tell you.
- Demon Hunter: There are some things that will haunt you forever if you never speak of them.
- Witch Doctor: You are a good man, the spirits say. Unburden your heart, my friend.
You misunderstand me. We are literally unable to recall our pasts. The inquisitors stripped my sins and the memory of them from me, leaving me pure.
Initiation
- Demon Hunter: I don't fully understand your order's motivations. Why do they take your past from you?
- Witch Doctor: Tell me more of your order. Why do they steal your past?
Our initiation blinds us to our sinful pasts so that we might clearly see the future and prepare for the final battle.
- Demon Hunter: And how does your order purge your memory?
- Witch Doctor: By what magic does your order strip a man of his memory?
I was chained to a wall and beaten. By the third day, I was mad from pain and hunger. This is when the whipping began. I was told I relived all of my transgressions, everything that brought me tainted joy. The whip took away that joy, then the sin, leaving me pure.
- Demon Hunter: Restraint bolsters the weak, not pain. You have suffered needlessly.
- Witch Doctor: In the Teganze, corrupt priests sacrificed men for their personal gain. Even they did not expect the men to be grateful.
Don't you understand? The templar order is trying to protect humanity from extinction. What is my pain against that goal?
Lessons
- Demon Hunter: Becoming a demon hunter is not as simple as making a choice. We are survivors.
Indeed. Discipline is at the heart of all great endeavors.
- Demon Hunter: Yes. It was discipline that forced me to face my nightmares and conquer my fears. I think that, deep down, you fear that your order is lying to you. That you were not the sinner that they say you were. Face that fear. Find the truth.
I... cannot lie. That has occurred to me. But if it were true, it would ruin everything I fight for.
- Witch Doctor: In my time, I have often argued with the spirits. I did not always believe they knew the true path for me.
I do not understand.
- Witch Doctor: No, you do not. When the spirits and I look at you, we agree. We say, "This is a good man. There is no darkness in him. There never was." Confront what you call your sins, and I say you will find nothing there. Test your faith and prove me wrong.
I... cannot lie. That has occurred to me. But if it were true, it would ruin everything I fight for.
Seeking the Truth
I have considered what we have discussed, and you are correct. I know little about my past beyond what my order has told me. But what doest it matter? Look what they have done for me. They have turned me into a living weapon, a light against darkness.
- Witch Doctor: I am not sure that the darkness you speak of is not in the order you serve. You must be able to remember your past to know the truth.
I wouldn't know how to begin. How do I seek memories that have been taken from me?
- Witch Doctor: Ground otatozo root would uncover every memory in your head. Or make you blind. It is a dangerous root.
You may be right. I will find a way to take back my memories and exonerate my order.
